BEGINNER I This online course covers everything you need to know to weave confidently on your own. It is specially designed for beginners - no experience necessary! With approximately 30 hours of instruction we will cover warping, dressing the loom, weaving plain weave structure, draft/pattern reading, warp and weft calculations as well as general discussion about materials used, loom types and local resources available. During this class each student will prepare and weave a set of 3 - 4 samplers to keep. Both floor looms and table looms are welcome. This virtual course will be taught live on zoom, and will be a mixture of on screen learning and student independent weaving time. Class sizes will be kept small to ensure ample one on one time if required. The instructor will be available at all times for assistance. Students are encouraged to have a tripod or similar device set up so that the instructor, at established times, can view the student working. Our goal is to ensure that each student is using proper physical techniques to minimize strain & discomfort and to promote successful handweaving practices. This virtual class is 5 days long, running 9:30am to 4:30pm (EST), Monday to Friday. Students must already own or have access to a floor loom or table loom and basic weaving equipment and supplies - a list will be provided. All students will receive a set of extensive class notes.
